Appreciations 4.203 – brilliant walks

First-Lake-Walk-March10-2016first buds 3:11:16

Glorious walks the past couple days! Made my first trek down to the lake this year yesterday…and on my way, saw my first butterfly and my first bud. Brilliant!

I was out at a different time of the day and took completely different routes the past two days, but on both days I was walking past a pair of dogs as they howled with sirens in the distance. In all my years of walking in this neighborhood, that’s never happened before. Now…. two days in a row!

I love how protean the city is. My walk a few days ago was punctuated by quietness. Today’s walk was filled with all the sounds of the city – airplanes, cars, sirens, dogs, people talking, kids playing. So much hustle and bustle.

Thesauri – both the word and the item. I didn’t actually know the word protean before today…and now I do. πŸ˜‰

Appreciations 4.176 – warmth

Sweaters, slippers, space heaters, and extra blankets. I’m so glad to have lots of ways to keep warm, well, warm-ish πŸ˜‰ while waiting for the furnace fixer person to appear.

Funny Toby made his own cozy home this morning.Β  Then, after I made the bed (this afternoon!), he gave me the cold shoulder. Looks like all is forgiven, though.

Cats who hamper my ability to work, but are cuddly and purry and warm.

Appreciations 4.175 – magic warmth

Nice visit with my folks today! Got to figure out the staging plan for Women of a Certain Height improv show next week, fixed up Mom’s iPad and FB issues, got some computer stuff done, and had a nice visit. Plus I came home with gluten-free goodies from Mom. πŸ˜€

Things magically fixing themselves β€” at least temporarily. When I got home, the house was freezing (60ΒΊ), but when I cranked up the heat, we only got cool air. By the time (about 30 minutes later) I called to schedule someone to come out, the furnace decided to start blowing warm air again. Thank you, furnace. Nice to have a warm-ish house (it’s up to 64ΒΊ now!) for sleeping tonight. Makes me really appreciate all the cold days when the furnace works so well I don’t even have to think about it.

The fun of listening to Earthtones tracks from 2002 (I wanted to add some music to our website). I was so happy – and so scared – that first year! πŸ™‚

Appreciations 4.74

Finishing work in time to get out for a quick walk before the sun went down all the way!

November weather that allows me to go for a walk at 5 pm wearing a skirt and sweater. Okay, I was a little chilly since the sun was setting, but still. Pretty nifty weather! πŸ™‚

The still beautiful colors of the leaves. This extended version of fall sure has been amazing! Off to sing with the lovely ladies of the Earthtones. Great way to end a Monday!!

Appreciations Year Three: Day 198

Free range sleeping.

The hilarious surprise when I pressed command+ yesterday (to enlarge the font in a Preview doc) and activated the text to voice feature on my mac (it was the pipe organ sound, so I heard my calendar updates as a song. LOL.)! I don’t remember changing that setting — but what a fun break from doing web updates. πŸ˜‰

Surprisingly amusing errands with the kids last night. All the cashiers (and even people in line with us) were so animated and cheerful and talkative. Fun!

Sunshine and an extended forecast with no highs below 34ΒΊ – and one predicted high of 56!!! Yeah, baby.

Appreciations Year Three: Day 185

Temperatures above 15ΒΊ. Woohoo!!

Clean and reorganized laundry room (at MY house this time)! And it only took 6 hours to accomplish it… πŸ˜›

Reward for a hard day’s work — dinner and drinks with Cara and Debb. What a super fun night!! ❀

Appreciations Year Three: Day 183

7 hours of undisturbed sleep. Practically unheard of… and SO refreshing!

Blankets, sweaters, slippers, working furnace, hot tea, purring cats, staying in.

A forecast that includes 29ΒΊ ABOVE zero. Even it if doesn’t happen, it sure is nice to dream about. πŸ˜‰

Year 1, Day 95: stealing thanks

Borrowing (stealing) the perfect facebook status update from my dear friend Timmy:

  • Thanks Thanksgiving, for providing a willing confederation of grateful people.
  • Thanks gratefulness, for making my days so much brighter during the past six months.
  • Thanks friends and family, for providing so many opportunities to be grateful.
  • Finally, thanks food, shelter and warmth–it’s sobering knowing how capriciously you can disappear.
