Appreciations 4.104

How interesting things are when they change. Sleep is, for the moment, a strange and unpredictable creature, some days nuzzling up beside me throughout the day, requesting more and more of my time, and on other days, disappearing at 4 am, off to play with someone else for the entire day. How odd and surreal things seem when “normal” isn’t normal any more!

Talking to myself! So helpful on these surreal, hazy days, for keeping me on task. More or less. 😉 I spoke a lot of the steps of my tasks out loud today. Funny!

Micro-tasks! That’s what I decided to call the little things I get done while I’m waiting for something else. Today while I was waiting for my toast to get toasty, I took all the silverware from its drawer and removed all the little crumblies from the drawer. Only took a few minutes and now my silverware drawer looks purdy. 🙂

Going to be absurdly early!

Appreciations 4.100 – the first hundred days of the 4th year

100! I remember thinking when I started this fourth year of daily appreciations that maybe it was time to take a break… and then thinking how strange it would be to stop. Even though there are days when finding that silver lining is more challenging than others, there is something very comforting about making the effort, and about knowing that even when the good things are hard to see, there are always, always at least 3 things to appreciate about any given day. That is a truly wonderful thing to know. ♥

A quiet day for lots of resting and sleeping. I don’t know why I’ve been so much more fatigued than usual the past week, but it sure is nice to have the opportunity to rest as much as I seem to need.

Managing to get a few little taskies done that have been waiting and waiting and WAITING for me to pay attention to them. How much lighter it feels to have tended to them! 🙂

Another early night. So strange for this little night-owl to fall asleep before 10 pm! I sure am glad I am able to when the need arises.

Sleep! Wow, the difference between 6 hours and close to 7 hours of sleep is truly amazing. I am going to stick with my new sleep-promoting habits if this is the result! 😀

Lovely coffee and chat with Laura today! Ever time I see her or Jeff, my brain still boggles a little that they’ve moved/are moving nearby – you know, like in the same state. 😉 Fun afternoon!

An extra hour today! I used it for sleeping! Wheeeee!

Setting mini-goals to help me reach the bigger goals. This week’s goal: get 7 or more hours of sleep at least 3 times. May not sound like much, but I rarely get 7 hours of sleep — and feel so great when I do and I know it’s better for my little heart. 🙂

stripey socksThe blissful discovery that all of my socks came back from the laundromat with me! For a few minutes, one sneaky sock tried to stow away in Mckenzie’s sweatshirt. I know she was hoping to travel to faraway lands (downstairs) and have some adventures (going to the U), but we caught her. Not that I’m trying to squelch her adventurous spirit… I’ll take her to some faraway lands (like the grocery store and library) so she can have adventures. I just really, really like my stripey socks to stay together.

How great a decent night of sleep feels when compared to the alternative. Mmmm.

Annie’s fruit snacks. They are a delicious treat whose Vit C helps with iron absorption (and they make a good chaser to my liquid iron which tastes like, um, grape juice + metal…) 😉

The weirdness of being fuzzy-brained. Walking around all day feeling as if I’m forgetting something. I wonder what it is. Hahaha!

Appreciations Year Three: Day 207

Feeling just well enough to do the stuff I really, really wanted to do this weekend, and then having enough down time to rest in between and afterward.

Watching awesome improv and then and having sososoooooo much fun performing with Sarah at the Pi Day Bonanza last night! Unbelievably fun.

The excitement of meeting new improvisers and hearing all their good ideas. I love surrounding myself with interesting, engaged, creative people. Musical improv is going to be super fun!

Warm socks, purring cats, tea, early bedtime.

Appreciations Year Three: Day 184

Spending some quality time with Mckenzie who came out to help clean up the Eagan house (somebody had to get up on that stepladder and clean those ceiling fan blades!).

Random late-night silliness in the kitchen. It may mean I am more tired the next day, but I love those little pockets of joy and fun and will continue to soak them all up whenever they happen — reasonable bedtime be damned. 😉

Luna behaving more or less normally — no middle of the night caterwauling!

Year 1, Day 120: sleep (usually), tiny world, friends

I appreciate:

  • The fact that I usually sleep more than 4 hours! Really, really, really appreciate that. Also that I have a warm house and comfortable bed to sleep in.
  • The truly bizarre way different part of my life are intersecting and criss-crossing these days. So many people connected from the past to the present, from one activity to another. Pretty freakin’ cool.
  • I deeply appreciate my generous, loving, supportive friends – both in town and far away. I know I am blessed beyond belief to be surrounded by such amazing people. ♥

Year 1, Day 82: sleeping, saturday, show

Today I am grateful:

  1. That Gracie slept through the night. Hallelujah for a decent night’s sleep.
  2. The spaciousness of Saturday…so many possible activities today. Gray and rainy – a perfect day for baking. Or a nap! Or…
  3. …being in an awesome (and free!) improv show!
