Appreciations 4.314 – 4.319

Enough energy to get my appreciations posted. Hooray! Still taking things one day at a time, but definitely improved from a few weeks ago. The act of jotting down my appreciations (even if I don’t post them) and getting in 10,000 steps each day has helped me feel at least a little stable during this strange time. I appreciate the geek in me who likes to measure and record things. πŸ˜€

Here are my appreciations for the past week or so.

4.314
Good Earth tea. Getting my June newsletter done while it’s still technically June. πŸ˜‰ A nice walk in the neighborhood with Katie.

4.315
Audio books narrated by Jonathan Cecil. His character voices are so effective, I often forget I’m listening to just one reader! Neighborhood walk with Cina. Wonderful visit with Terri.

4.316
A good night’s sleep. Coffee. Tackle hugs and playing with Ruby.

4.317
Star Trek. Comfy pillows. Sunshine.

4.318
The absurdity of cleaning out a closet at 4 am. So strange to still be wide awake at that time…but very satisfying to wake up after a few hours of sleep and look at my newly organized closet — and see that I’d already logged over 2,000 steps for the day. Hahaha!

Delicious dinner with the Delaneys.

Sidewalk chalk.

4.319
Waking up at 6 am (when the power went out) instead of going to sleep at 6 am! πŸ˜‰

I finally decided to get out of bed to report the outage just before 7… and about 10 seconds after I reported it, the power came back on. Magic!

Electricity. Oh, yes. I appreciate power for my computer and phone, stove and refrigerator, lights, fans, washing machine… so many things that make life so much easier and more comfortable!

Appreciations 4.293-4.295

293

  • Decent sleep and no nightmares.
  • Morning coffee with Debb… just like the old days. πŸ˜€
  • Silver linings — like getting an additional 2500 steps in while looking for what we needed (including someone to help us find what we needed) at Menards.

294

  • Yummy dinner and reminiscing with Debb. Oh, what a fun visit!
  • Good hand lotion.
  • Raspberries.

295

  • Side steps demolition complete! Hot, sweaty work (done mostly by Mckenzie!), but satisfying, too. Lots of work for my right tricep! πŸ˜‰
  • Levers of all kinds, especially pry bars, hammer heads, and arms!
  • WD40.
  • Ice water.
  • Air conditioning!
  • Cool showers.

Appreciations 4.243

All the green-green-greening! It’s definitely worth a few weeks of sniffle-sneezy-itching to see spring springing up! πŸ˜‰

New essential oil blend (lavender, lemon, peppermint) to try out for allergies. Thanks, for the suggestion, Cina!

Early, early, early bedtime. πŸ˜€

Appreciations 4.214

(today!) Waking up in my own bed. Such luxury!

Sitting on the couch watching birds flit from branch to branch on the tree outside the window. Listening to bird songs and looking out at a beautiful and sunny day.

Katie and Cina, for staying with me for a few days while I get back on my feet. Literally… πŸ˜›

flowers 2016Pretty flowers and plants and cards, oh my! Thank you Laura & Jeff, Sarah, Ruby, and my wonderful Cheezeball friends!

Nap nap nap nappity-naps. How funny to be waking and sleeping in this off-kilter way.

My mom & dad for dropping off a shower chair this morning.

Taking. A. Shower!!!!!!!!!!!!! Srsly. So good. πŸ˜€

Appreciations 4.171 – the concert

WheeIt’s a little hard to find words to adequately describe Ellis‘ CD release concert last night. πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’— The open-hearted joy passing back and forth between Ellis and the audience was palpable. Her unbelievably beautiful music, with her strong, clear, gorgeous voice, perfectly balanced accompaniment, and soul-stirring lyrics bewitched us and transported us to some new level of joyful in-the-moment living. What a treat to watch her and Rad playing together and having so much fun as they created a new kind of magic. Every song was amazing in its own way and Ellis’ stories made us laugh and cry and whoop and holler with glee. And OMG the Desdemona-Ellis-Nina Simone folk rap mashup! O. M. G. No words – you just had to be there. πŸ˜€ The night was made even better for me, by getting to share it with people I adore! So many fun moments of shared joy and love.Β πŸ’— It was an incredible night and I am profoundly grateful for having been part of it.

Sunshiny Sundays.

Naps. πŸ˜‰

Appreciations 4.158 – lots of stuff!

Lots of sleeping in the past 24 hours – naps and waking up after 9 am this morning (which is practically unheard of for me!). I wonder if it has anything to do with starting Qi Gong. Interesting!

A nice unscheduled day yesterday. I only did 30 minutes of work work, so it was just like a day off. How nice to sleep, read, draw and relax. I also started batch #3 of soup. After talking with Pam, I decided to try adding mire poix to the soup this time. How fun to experiment with making food to see what I like. Isn’t it funny that I’ve never done this before?! I do love the way the house smells while I’m making soup. πŸ™‚

Once the soup was going, I cooked sweet potatoes to eat with leftover chicken and made GF chocolate cake. It’s nice to have food and treats all set for the week!

Today’s word: whimsy. It makes me feel happy to think about it.

Wodehouse words, phrases, and sentences – some just for fun, a couple I had to look up:
cachexia
poltroon
bally
blighter
paroxysm
a beefy blow
…became involved in a bush
“Those oily-looking depths suggested the presence of frogs, newts, and other slimy things that work their way down a man’s back and behave clammily around his spine…”

Behave clammily. Ah hahahaha!

Spent more time than usual on FB yesterday. What funny, interesting, dear people you all are. I especially enjoyed Corinna’s conversation with her friends about the “Be like Bill” meme that’s going around. Her reactions we so much like mine (I find some of them funny and celebrate everyone who is enjoying them, but mostly they feel too narrow (m/f only for gender) and shaming for my taste.) I love the interesting, inspiring, thought-provoking things my friends post!

Here’s my version for today!

Appreciations 4.151 – modern comforts

Going to sleep on a comfortable bed, under warm, just-out-of-the-dryer sheets (having washed same in my own home) in a warm, not too dry (thanks to the humidifier) room. Starting the day making delicious coffee from freshly-ground beans and water heated on the stove and drinking it from a mug washed while I slept. It’s easy to take these things for granted, but how comfortable and simple they make my days. πŸ™‚

Getting an email from my Dad this morning, letting me know that he had a great night of sleep following yesterday’s laughter yoga. How exciting to see those laughter benefits so quickly! πŸ˜€

My doc’s new practice of using wrap instead of bandaids after a blood draw. Makes for much more comfortable removal. πŸ˜‰

Appreciations 4.146

Our little heat wave. It felt positively balmy out there today. πŸ™‚

Another excellent DDP coworking day with Amy and Allison, both of whom know how to spell their names. πŸ˜€

Another fabulous pre-9 pm bedtime. Sleeping is fun!

Appreciations 4.137 – things with exclamation points and MMMM

Sleep! I’m not really sure why I need SO much of it these past few days, but I was very glad to sleep in this morning and catch up a little bit.

Decluttering! Mckenzie and I made significant progress on the downsize/declutter project in the basement today – in just an hour. Three more bags of stuff to donate, one bag of things moved back into their rightful places, another couple bags out to the trash/recycling. Pretty exciting. πŸ˜€

Phones! I started the day with a quick little conversation with Terri and closed out the day catching up with David. So great to be able to keep in touch, at least a little, and hear my dear friends’ voices.πŸ’—

Hahaha! My MMMM: morning marker meditation mistake… You can tell I did this before coffee. I accidentally made another 4.136 sign. Haha!
