I appreciate my cousin, Ivan, the curmudgeon! Especially his 1) wisdom 2) humor 3) exquisite use (and enjoyment) of language! You can read his column here. 🙂
appreciation
Year 1, Day 58: my mom, gorgeous leaves, talented friends
I appreciate:
- Getting to spend time with my most awesome mom, Carol, this morning!
- The gorgeous leaves that threw themselves in my path, brightening my walk today.
- Knowing so many delightful and talented people — and the myriad opportunities to see them shine! (M4W Improv, PAM, Twin Cities Horror Festival to name just a few!)

Year 1, Day 57: albino squirrel, colored pencils, stickers
Year 1, Day 56: resources, neuroplasticity, Kim
I appreciate:
- All the resources I’ve come across in the past year that have helped me learn how to change my thoughts and create new neural pathways. Everything in my life is more or less the same — but my life is completely different!
- Neuroplasticity. How cool that our brains are a little like silly-putty. Hahaha!
- The chance encounter with Kim at Back to Balance-Achieve Health today. What a wonderfully fun surprise!
Year 1, Day 55: boots, Kismet, family weekend
I appreciate:
- Boots! There’s something fun about wearing a dress and boots. Thanks, Debb, for giving me my first pair — and helping me find my second pair for cheap at Kismet. I am now an official addict.
- Kismet and other second-hand stores for supplying such cool boots for cheap!
- Katie being home for 4 days and the luxury of weekends. Not everybody gets to have time off like this, and I truly appreciate the time to rest, hang out with my family….and go shopping with Katie…to buy us both some boots. 😛
Year 1, Day 54: bus, haircut, ambience
I appreciate:
- The bus from Morris that brings Katie Korpi home for the weekend!
- My new haircut, which allows me to carry my purse or briefcase on my shoulder without catching my hair in the straps!
- The ambiance of this overcast Saturday as I sit here in my messy house with purring felines draped on the couch behind me, listening to the sounds of my family all around. Bliss. 🙂
Year 1, Day 53: husband hero, dish-doer, supportive spouse
I appreciate my hubby and my hero, Patrick Boyle, who:
- Got up (uncomplainingly) 1 1/2 hours early today, and has pretty much put his own life on hold these past few weeks, to take care of his mom
- Does the dishes and cleans up the kitchen every night
- Supports me and says, “You can do it!” no matter what new idea I’m trying out. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, my friends. ♥
Year 1, Day 51: deconstruction drinks, complexity, simplicity
I appreciate:
- Deconstructing Deconstruction over drinks with my classmates from HUGE 401 last night!
- The, um, excitement of last year’s Skynote work (3 different accounting systems, 4 bank accounts at 2 banks, 4 assistants, ~20 clients).
- The simplicity of Skynote Consulting now! (1 system, 2 accts at 1 bank, 1 (completely awesome) employee, ~20 clients). Whew!
Year 1, Day 50: Kent, transformation, unexpected delights, dance with chair
I appreciate:
- Kent, who, on his birthday, posted (on Facebook) this lovely thought, which I want to share with all MY FB friends: You are all dear to me. You all matter. Never imagine that your life doesn’t! 🙂
- Last night’s reminder of the power of laughter yoga and community. Thank you, friends, for helping me transform my crabby, headachy, overwhelmed mood into one of peaceful joy
- The unexpected delight of learning that a fellow laugher from the laughter yoga club is a HUGE Theater student — and the fun of sitting with her at Show X last night!
- Tim Hellendrung’s exquisite dance with a chair, and his impeccable recasting of it in a later scene!
Year 1, Day 49: turtle mochas, coffee shop pay-it-forward, happy looks
I appreciate:
- The decadence of a turtle mocha. It’s like candy — with espresso!
- Wherever I first heard the idea of people leaving extra money at a coffee shop to buy the drinks of the next people in line
- The happy and shocked look on the face of the barista to whom we gave a $10 tip — and money for the next customers’ drinks. So. Much. Fun! 🙂
