Appreciations 12/14 – 12/28. Light & darkness, warmth & cold, busy & quiet.

Seeing Thor Ragnarok with Mckenzie. So. Much. Fun. Will I go see it again when it comes to Riverview Theater? Why, yes. Yes I will. π

Appreciations 12/6-12/8: E E E. What begins with E?
Eggs! Our chickens are all laying now! I knew this was what was going to happen, but it is still a little miracle to me. π

Ellis! How lovely to get to spend time with her this week. And then she sent me the most fabulous card! I love it! β€οΈ

“Excuse me, young man.” Which is what Ida said to Mckenzie last night after she burped. π€£
Eager to spend time with Sara this afternoon. π
Excited to see CLOTH this evening with Sarah, Mckenzie, Katie, and Cina. Oh, right. And guess who did sound design? And who wrote some music for it? #myawesomekids
Energy enough to work and get some stuff done. π€ΈββοΈ
Enchanted by our snowman table cloth and the other Christmas decorations we finally put up. What a festive space we live in. π

Appreciations 12/1-12/5: fun and games
Our. First. Egg!!! π₯ It’s so tiny! π
Chicken dust baths on our last snow-free day.
Nightly playdoh time with the family.Β New playdoh!
Mckenzie’s brilliant plan for using the horrible old playdoh. Now we have a pet. His name is Hordigorrible.
Demolition of our silly lego house. Next we’ll build a Christmas house. π
Hilarious adventures with straws and cups at Target. First the stranger who dashed over to my cart as I was leaving. He quickly threw his empty coffee cup into my cart and then raced into the store. Ahahaha! Then, the next time I was at Target, I came out to find that someone had placed this straw on my car. I wonder what’s next! Bwahahaha!
Our growing collection of tiny plants. I love them!
Our first real snow. Hello, winter. βοΈβοΈβοΈ
Appreciations 11/30: Still home.
Appreciations 11/29: Home.
During my last few hospital adventures I had someone bring me me laptop so I could work. On my first full day home, I would then try to get as much work done as possible to get caught up.
This time, I did not work while in the hospital and today I am handling the 2 most urgent work issues, drinking coffee, watching Rogue One, petting the cats, and napping. #OlddogNewtricks
Other things I appreciate today?
β’ Visits from Alison & Ellis yesterday. What fun friends I have. Plus chocolate. Plus coffee. π
* Ellis’ enthusiastic interest in taking me home yesterday. Bwahahaha. Thanks for the ride, friend! β€οΈ
β’ Sweet and snarky support from you all. I love you!
β’ Yesterday’s 2-hour nap before bedtime.
β’ Being home with my beloved little family!
β’ Reconnecting with my favorite felines.
β’ Wearing my own pjs to sleep in my own bed in my own room… complete with freshly laundered sheets and vacuumed floors (thank you Mckenzie!) and minus 4 am blood draws and round the clock beeps and buzzes.
β’ Good coffee.
#happytobehome
Appreciations 11/24-11/28: Good friends, good docs, good plan.
You guys! Guess where I am? At the hospital. Again. I’m fine and should be going home tomorrow. At some point I’ll add this adventure to my Caring Bridge page. Long story short is that my heart started playing fast and loose with rhythm again. It took some doing (and a few meds and a couple shocks), but they got it reset and we have a plan for moving forward. So, yay!
Sarah says it’s time for me to stop beta testing our MDFun Bingo game, so I guess the next step is to make it available for other folks. π
Here are a few of the many, many things I noticed appreciating during this particular sojourn…
Dedicated, determined, and delightful staff in the ER, ICU, and the rest of the hospital.
How willing people are to join me in having fun even under weird and/or stressful situations.
All the medical stuff that keeps on keeping me going.
The profoundly wonderful people in my life. Aside from the outpouring of love and support, here are a few other things I especially appreciate…
Mckenzie’s company during our surprisingly scary time in the ER.
Visits from Sarah, Katie, Cina, and Terri which somehow managed to be incredibly silly and supportive at the same time.
Sarah, again, for bringing me a pinwheel – and for being willing to help me get my will written out when we weren’t sure what was next. Talk about bestie-roomie. Whew!
Terri, again, for volunteering to be my official pinwheel blower – and for our awesome discussion of my funeral, which of course would include improv or skits, costumes, and laughter. (Don’t worry. It’s been decided that this gig isn’t scheduled any time soon. You still have decades to prepare your material!)
Hilarious running jokes about pee with the ICU nurses. Oh how fun when they play right along!
More pee jokes with my hospital roommate since we were both on a diuretic at the same time…and shared a bathroom.
Gorgeous view of the river from my bed.
Chocolate pudding. π
Katieβs hospital hair braiding services. This is far more important than you know.
Quiet, perfect fan to adjust temp in our steamy room.
Plenty of people and things to appreciate, an iPad to work on, and something fun to do during the wee hours of the morning when I can’t sleep.
