Appreciations! May 14, 2019

• Cina’s graduation! Yay, Cina! You da real MVP. 😄
• Garden time this weekend. SO excited for our pollinator, veggie, and herb gardens in the front yard!!

• Ida! She can catch Amelia all by herself now!

• Chickens. I just love our girls so much. It’s absurd.
• First round of attic cleaning – done!
• Bird song, sunlight, those few completely perfect days in May that make it worth surviving our winters. 🙃

Springtime at the purple house!

I appreciate spring at the purple house! It includes:

Sidewalk chalk art

the promise of lilies of the valley and wild geranium

and the first tiny bud in our pollinator garden. Yay!!! 😊

Appreciations du jour

Rain and thunder. ⚡️
Evening dance parties at the purple house. 🤩
Ida’s idea of making Luna comfortable in her bed!

Finally starting to feel like myself again (thyroid levels improving and grief feeling manageable most days). 💖
Goofy George the chicken standing in the rain all morning. 😄
Working on Seriously Happy’s Chemo Care Bingo Cards. So excited about these! 😊

Abbreviated appreciations

Between my sister’s death and the news that I’ve moved from an “if/when” heart transplant to a “when” heart transplant situation, the past few months have been more challenging than usual.

Fortunately, my well-trained brain keeps right on noticing all that is wonderful around me, whether I’m too sad to get out of bed or filled with enthusiasm for another day.

One thing that’s been much harder to do is to post anything online. Somehow the energy required to formulate thoughts, write and edit posts, and actually post them is more than I have most days.

However, since anxiety is a newly constant friend again, I’m doing things I know will lower my cortisol (the stress hormone) levels again — including writing down 3 things I appreciate every day. And so I’ll start posting again, too. Lucky you!! 😄

Here are some good things from the past few days…

  • New purple ombre silky blanket (thank you, Sarah!)
  • Sunshine
  • Sarah clearing off the snow from my car in the morning!!
  • Sweet mornings with Sarah & Ida
  • Sunshine
  • Waking up with a modicum of energy
  • Valentine’s Day decorations and dinner
  • Luna & Toby coexisting peacefully on my lap
  • Living in a love-filled household

Next up: Chemo Care Bingo 💜

Guess what? I’m working on the next iteration of Seriously Happy bingo cards, Chemo Care Cards — specifically designed to make chemo easier!

I’d love to hear your ideas for fun or helpful squares. I’ve got 64 squares ready, but it’s nice to have 90-100 to randomize into the different cards.

I am also looking a few people who’d be interested in testing the cards for me before I print a full run. I am confident about the stuff I’m working on related to my health appointments, but I have less experience with navigating cancer. I would be thrilled to have input from people who have or are going through it. Also sending love to those of you navigating that tricky terrain. ❤️

If you or anyone you know would be interested in helping me develop fun and effective cards, please email me at diana@seriously-happy.com.

Birthday mind-reading

Okay, this is amazing. As far as I can tell, people are reading my mind for my birthday!

1. Sarah & I went to IKEA and as we were getting ready to head out, I convinced myself to wait until January to buy the new comforter I’ve been wanting. Then when we get there, she announces that she’d like to buy me a new comforter for my birthday. What?! And a new super-comfy pillow!

2. I’m going to buy myself a ring with Jeni’s birthstone in it, but again, plan to wait until next year. Then yesterday, a package arrives from Libby with the most hilarious inside-joke bday card (!!!) AND a bracelet featuring both Jeni’s and my birthstones. Beautiful!

3. Katie was asking for gift ideas for a mutual friend last night and I suggested fresh fruit from FL. We did that for someone a long time ago and it was amazing. Then today, what arrives for me in the mail? A gift from Pam. Florida oranges!

Srsly. Are you people monitoring and interpreting my brainwaves somehow?? 😄

Thank you so much for the thoughtful and perfectly perfect gifts, my darling friends! I sure do love you! 💖💖💖

Appreciation pix

I’m so grateful to have my appreciation pathways firmly etched in my neural network. I may not post them much these days, but here are some pix of what I’ve appreciated the past few weeks. So. Many. Holiday. Lights, visit with Santa, gifts and flowers from lovely friends Bree & Suzanne, silly wrapping projects, my standard getting-ready-for-doc-appts process, beautiful kiddos. You know, the usual. 😄
