Year 1, Day 113: crabbiness brings gratefulness

I’m crabby today, so it’s especially helpful/challenging 😉 to figure out what I appreciate right now. Let’s see… I appreciate:

  • The intrepid travelers who braved the icy roads to come to Laughter Yoga last night and the fun of leading the group (thanks, Jody! Hope you got some sleep!)
  • The awesome show with Andrew Zimmern at HUGE Theater last night.
  • The warmth of my house.
  • The comfort of seeing the kitties and Gracie all snuggled up sleeping in the living room.
  • The generous, caring staff at Wilder who were at today’s meeting and the fact that MIL care is going pretty well for now.
  • The fact that I can once again see the FLOOR in my office (still a long way to go, but at least I can find my desk and actually work there….)
  • The sounds and smells coming from the kitchen, which indicate that Pat is making the Best. Fried. Potatoes. Ever — and knowing he will share them with me. 🙂
  • The fact that we get Katie home again tomorrow. Oh! That’s a good one. Having the whole family around for a month is going to be wonderful. Deep breath of contentment. Yup. Now I can get back to work.

Year 1, Day 112: stream-of-consciousness

Stream-of-consciousness appreciation:

I’ve been thinking about this appreciation practice. It’s easy to find people I’m grateful for every day. It’s easy to think of things I own or experiences I have that I appreciate. But it’s also easy to overlook some things. I’m not worried about it, just interested.

It’s easy to overlook things like vision. I read until midnight last night, a little while past the time when my eyes started complaining. That little bit of irritation made me realize how lucky I am that my eyes work so well. Sure, I need glasses, but I still get to read whenever I want, do work on my computer, see my kids and family, watch the snow falling. And then I thought how lucky I am to have a sense of balance that lets me do goofy, spinning scenes with my improv group and not fall over. And then I remembered shoveling. How great is it that this old body can still get all the muscles to work together to shovel those 8 inches of snow?! (We’ve had 3 or 4 since then, but that’s what it was at the time.)

Yes, yesterday it was easy to be grateful for my warm house, my wonderful friends, the beautiful weather, things that were somehow obvious…. but all these other amazing things are still easy to take for granted. So today I appreciate all THOSE things, even if I forgot to think of them…. 😛

Year 1, Day 111: lovely day, breakfast and improv, shoveling, cleaning, coziness

I appreciate:

  1. The loveliness of today. It was so beautiful at the lake this morning with the snow falling and a dense mist over the whole lake. Breathtaking!
  2. Breakfast at Zumbro was delicious, then rehearsal with the Urbane Gorillas was fun and productive.
  3. Shoveling made me feel victorious 🙂 and now cleaning my office before settling down for a cozy night with my hubby. I have a blessed life. I deeply appreciate my great good fortune.♥

Year 1, Day 110: a bit of bitwordy

I appreciate:

  1. My Bitwordy friends! It’s been interesting to meet these amazing people from all over the world. Not only are they word-geeks like me 🙂 But they are super smart, funny, and sweet!
  2. My dream this morning in which I was playing Bitwordy and found optic, myopic, biopic, topic, and tropic and was super happy. So fun to be a geek! LOL.
  3. All the goofy holiday avatars my Bitwordy friends are using right now. ♥

Year 1, Day 109: Kim Pilgrim, treatment space, x-rays

I appreciate:

  1. Kim Pilgrim, who is not only a warm and wonderful person, but who is also an amazing cranio-sacral therapist.
  2. I also appreciate her treatment space – which looks and feels like a meditation center and smells like my Gramma’s sauna. Mmmmm. 🙂
  3. I really appreciate X-rays. Not only are they helpful for figuring stuff out, but I have to say — it is super cool to be able to look at the inside of my foot! 😛

Year 1, Day 107: email cleansing, current jobs, old job

I appreciate:

  1. How awesome if feels to have helped someone overwhelmed by emails to go from 9,000+ emails in the inbox (about 5,000+ unread) to 0! And to have helped them come up with a system that works to keep the inbox clear. Even more exciting than figuring it out for myself. 🙂
  2. My jobs. I have the best jobs! I’m having so much fun with my web consulting work — and am very excited to start offering laughter yoga and positive psychology workshops very soon!!
  3. Hahaha – even my “old” job is fun — I’ll be at B2B/AHC Holiday Event selling my jewelry this Thursday, Dec 6 from 4-8. It’s going to be a really fun event! Stop by if you can! ♥

Year 1, Day 106: inbox cleaning, electricity, darkness and lightness

I appreciate:

  1. Being able to take 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening to clean out my email inbox. Thank you, Terri, for sharing the idea with me. It is supremely satisfying!
  2. Electricity. I do! I don’t think about it a lot, but it is super helpful. Plus, I like having our holiday lights lit up around the windows.
  3. This dark time of the year — and the fact that so many of us choose to put up lights. I love driving around a looking at the huge range of displays, from one window lit up to lights on every conceivable surface and dancing snowmen. Hahaha!

Year 1, Day 105: rain, awards at HUGE, Molly

I appreciate:

  1. Today’s rain. Of course it’d be nicer if it was snow — but we’ll take whatever precipitation we can get!
  2. The Improviser of the Year Awards at HUGE last night. What a ridiculously lovely and amazing group of people! ♥
  3. Thanks to Molly from whom I stole the wording “ridiculously lovely and amazing.” A perfect description of the event – and the community. 🙂

Year 1, Day 104: geeky-weirdness, beautiful fog, amazing people

I appreciate:

  1. My own geeky-weirdness and the random pleasures it affords me. Last night I looked up from my book to see what time it was – 12:12. Yup. That made me so happy. Even better when I a) finished reading the chapter I was on at 12:14 and b) got up to get some water, got back into bed, and turned the light off at 12:16. I like to believe I fell asleep at 12:18. 😛
  2. The beautiful fog all over my neighborhood this morning
  3. Knowing so many amazing writers and thinkers.
