Year 1, Day 31: nervous systems – somatic, autonomic, sympathetic

More body appreciation…I appreciate:

  1. My somatic nervous system for helping me move when the spirit says move, dance when the spirit says dance ♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ ¸¸.• ♪♫….
  2. My autonomic nervous system, for taking care of all that stuff required to, you know, continue living… including my my parasympathetic nervous system for taking care of everything when there’s no emergency, and
  3. My sympathetic nervous system for making fight or flight possible (you know, for when I encounter my next super villain!)

Year 1, Day 30: ears, ears, ears

Ears! Three separate reasons I appreciate my ears

  1. I love being able to hear my favorite musicians sing, the soft sound of my old kitty snoring, the wind in the trees, an audience laughing, the early-morning, dark-still clock ticking.
  2. I love having a place to hang my glasses
  3. I love to decorate ’em — and how the decorations make me feel connected to my family: I got my latest pierce when Katie was getting a new pierce (you know, your average mother-daughter outing….), and the diamond stud is my mom’s (she lost the other and gave this one to me). Thank you ears! ♥

Year 1, Day 29: ability to laugh, taste buds, toeses

More of body appreciation week. I appreciate:

  1. All the parts of my body that work together to produce laughter — AND all the cool physiological stuff that happens because of laughter. (Plus I appreciate Show X and Laughter Yoga club). All of these things add up to Monday being my favorite day of the week. Monday!
  2. My taste buds for making breakfast so perfect – especially the coffee, and nectarine, strawberry, and cantaloupe yumminess.
  3. My toeses – for helping with that whole walking and balancing thing….and for letting me dress up their toenailses in pretty colors. 🙂

Year 1, Day 28: fingers, legs, eyes

I don’t know about you, but I am often guilty of thinking critical and/or complaining thoughts about my body, so this week I am, instead, appreciating:

  1. My fingers for enabling me to use my computer, text my children to stay in touch, pet my cats, and scratch my itches and a million other little everyday tasks.
  2. My legs, which easily carry me wherever I ask, including to classes, on errands and to visit friends.
  3. My eyes, for showing me the people I love, the changing colors of autumn leaves, colorful artwork on my walls, and the smiling faces of lovely people I encounter. 🙂

Year 1, Day 27: new challenges, my hubby, weekends

I appreciate:

  • The excitement of reaching just past my comfort zone and doing something new. Last night’s show was So. Much. Fun!
  • Patrick Boyle, for being there, rooting for me, no matter what shenanigans I’m up to.
  • The luxury of the weekend….since I didn’t settle down until about 2 am and woke up, thinking about last night again, at 6. So nice not to have to go to work today! 😉

Year 1, Day 25: golf memory, car, adventure

Today I appreciate:

  1. The memory of this thrilling golf outing 2 years ago. Caught on the back 9 in a sudden and blinding rain (we actually had golf carts this time – first time ever)… driving like crazy to get back to the club, with Debb shrieking and laughing with me all the way. One of the best cabin stories ever. (Plus, I appreciate my amazing family — some of the shiniest, brightest, funniest people ever.)
  2. My car. I absolutely love my car. It’s purdy and takes me wherever I need to go. I am happy every single time I drive somewhere.
  3. The adventure of my life. I have had the great good fortune to meet and work with truly exceptional people in so many areas of my life….and I continue to meet fascinating, talented, generous people every time I try something new!

Year 1, Day 24: coincidences, synchronicity, “it’s a small world” moments

Today I appreciate :

  1. Learning that one of my improv classmates can only turn her hand 90º – just like my brother (not a very common problem.)
  2. Talking to 2 people from completely different parts of my life (improv classmate and friend from high school) and learning that they are both getting their motorcycle licenses this week — but DON’T have a motorcycle. 🙂
  3. Learning that my improv instructor, Michael Bruckmueller, not only knows, but has done improv with TWO of my double-first cousins from Duluth!

Year 1, Day 23: 23, flat rate mailing boxes, Sharpie markers

I appreciate:

  1. The number 23. Not only is it the date of my birthday, but it’s just good number fun. I also like 34, 45, 56, 67, 78, 89 and 1:23, 3:45 etc. Remember how much I like my own geekiness? Oh, it just shows up in so many ways!!
  2. Flat rate priority mail boxes. So easy to ship Pat P’s books for him — and get packages to my beautiful Katie out in Morris. No guessing — if it fits in the box, you know the cost!
  3. Sharpie markers. Especially when they’re crisp and new!

Year 1, Day 22: sticky notes, calculator, appreciation practice

I appreciate:

  1. Bright pink sticky notes that wake me up (and remind me of easily forgotten things)!
  2. My favorite Casio calculator that I’ve had since high school Algebra. I love this calculator!! (Yes, I know this calls me out as a geek. I love my geekiness, too.) 😛
  3. The effects of having a daily appreciation practice — especially on a day with too little sleep and various minor physical complaints. Helps get me started on a much more positive note! ♥
